Thank you for your letter setting out the error you have discovered as part of investigative work preparing to improve methods and production systems for Producer Price Indices (PPI). 

Based on the findings of your investigations, I agree to your request to temporarily remove the accredited official statistics status from the following outputs, and to apply this suspension to releases dating from November 2020 onwards:  

• Producer Price Indices (PPI) which include the Export Price Index (EPI) and Import Price Index (IPI) 

• Services Producer Price Indices (SPPI)  

As you noted in your letter this will ensure clarity for users about the quality issues you have found.  

We will continue to engage with your team, via our Economy, Business and Trade team, and look forward to considering re-accreditation once we are assured that the statistics can meet the standards expected by the Code of Practice for Statistics.
