Who we are
The Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR) aims to enhance public confidence in the statistics produced by government. We do so by reviewing statistics against the Code of Practice for Statistics – the standards that all producers of official statistics must adhere to. OSR decides, and enforces, the standards of the Code. Statistics that meet the standards are granted the status of accredited official statistics (previously called National Statistics).
OSR is the regulatory arm of the UK Statistics Authority. We operate separately from government ministers and producers of statistics. See more about OSR governance.
We also report publicly on issues and concerns across the whole UK statistical system, and investigate cases where statistics are used publicly in a misleading way, using our voice to stand up for statistics where necessary. And we carry out research to better understand how statistics serve the public good, so that we can make good on our vision.
Our vision is simple: Statistics should serve the public good.
