Cancellation of the accredited official statistics status of Sea Fisheries Statistics
Thank you for your letter of 23 October requesting the cancellation of accreditation for the Sea Fisheries Statistics produced by the Marine Management Organisation (MMO). I previously agreed to your request to temporarily suspend the status of these statistics as accredited official statistics. Thank you for also providing a comprehensive update on the development work that has been carried out to improve the statistics as well as areas where work is still needed.
I welcome the commitment you and your team have shown to prioritising improvements to these statistics. These developments have enhanced data quality and improved accessibility and clarity of the statistics. Given the further development work which you have planned, and in line with our guidance, I agree with your request to cancel the accreditation for the Sea Fisheries Statistics.
I note the challenges you outline with some of the source data required for you to produce the monthly sea fisheries statistics release. My team will be happy to support engagement with other producers and data suppliers on this issue, if helpful. We will also be happy to discuss the most appropriate timing for a future review of these statistics once development work has progressed and you are assured that the outputs comply fully with the Code of Practice for Statistics.
