Dear Iain

Household Projections for England

Thank you for your recent letter outlining the progress you have made to date since our compliance check on household projections for England. I would also like to thank you and your team for your proactive engagement around the issues that we raised.

The plans you have set out to update the methods guidance and review the quality documentation should help enhance not just users’ accessibility to the statistics but also their understanding of quality. We also welcome your collaborative work with the Welsh Government, National Records of Scotland (NRS) and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) to improve the guidance about the coherence and comparability of projections produced for each of the four countries of the UK.

Your commitment to continue researching the most appropriate methodology for producing additional variants and the proposed analysis of local-authority level projection outliers will also be important for enhancing the clarity, insight and overall value offered by the projections for a range of users and uses.

We look forward to further updates in relation to these developments after the additional analysis and guidance around the 2016-based household projections are published later this summer.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Pont
Assessment Programme Lead
