Request to re-start assessment of the NHS Scotland workforce statistics

We have asked your team in the Office for Statistics Regulation to consider including the assessment of the NHS Scotland workforce statistics by NHS Education for Scotland (NES) in your 2024/2025 work programme. The assessment was previously paused in 2022 as NES were managing several changes and on-going work with data suppliers and we agreed that pausing the assessment while this was happening would be beneficial.

Over the past 18 months NES have continued to progress these areas of work, providing us with regular updates on developments and working closely with the PHS Statistical Governance team. Following this progress, I would now welcome the continuation of theses statistics’ assessment as NES continue to develop in their role as an official statistics producer.

I’d be grateful if you could consider these requests. I’m copying this letter to David Baird, Service Manager of the PHS Statistical Governance team. David is ready to pick up next steps with the OSR team. I am also copying in Colin Tilley (Head of Programme), Liz Jamieson (Senior Specialist Information Analyst), and Ben Tait (Senior Specialist Information Analyst), at NES, who will be supporting their team throughout this process.
