Dear Sandra
National Statistics designation for local authority revenue expenditure and financing, budget statistics, England
Thank you for your letter. I’m pleased to hear that you now feel assured that the quality of your local authority revenue expenditure and financing, budget statistics has now improved, and that you have not seen any issues such as those experienced in last year’s data.
I welcome the positive and constructive attitude of your statisticians in engaging with my team. My team has reviewed the steps taken by the statisticians to assure themselves of the quality of the data, and the proposed enhancements to the statistical narrative that you refer to, to ensure an appropriate interpretation of the historical series by users.
On the basis that the quality of the data has now returned to that of a normal year and the proposed enhancements to statistical commentary, I am pleased to restore the National Statistics designation. National Statistics status means that official statistics meet the highest standards of trustworthiness, quality and value and is something to be celebrated. We invite you to include a statement alongside the statistics which reflects this status.
Yours sincerely
Ed Humpherson
