Labour market statistics derived from the ONS Labour Force Survey (LFS)

Following ONS’s decision to replace its planned LFS-derived labour market statistics with a new series using additional data sources, we plan to undertake a short review of today’s statistics against key elements of the Code of Practice for Statistics.

We expect that the review will cover the following areas:

• The suitability of the revised methodology and quality assurance approach to produce headline labour market estimates
• The clarity of communication with users on what the new series can and cannot be used for
• The extent to which these statistics meet user needs
• Any further actions planned to improve the quality of the LFS during the transition period to the Transformed Labour Force Survey (TLFS)

We intend to share and publish findings prior to ONS’s next publication in November and my team will be in touch to discuss in further detail.
