Thank you for your letter regarding planned improvements to the relevance and timeliness of your statistics on affordable housing delivery in Wales.

I agree that there is public value in making your more-timely management information available alongside your established accredited official statistics on affordable housing delivery in Wales.

Ahead of the Senedd election in May 2026, it will be important for campaigners to have a clear understanding of the Welsh Government’s progress against its own targets by using publicly available data. It is equally essential that the public can access and use this same data to hold the Government to account.

I especially welcome your plans to communicate the strengths and limitations of the official statistics and the management information. Doing this clearly and accessibly is particularly important to support their appropriate use by a range of users, given their increased public profile and use in the run up to the elections.

My team will continue to engage with your statisticians as they further develop the management information over the coming months. Please keep me informed of any further developments that you feel are required to meet users’ needs for more timely statistics against any further Welsh Government targets.
