Dear Ed,
Thank you for undertaking your compliance review of the Gambling Survey for Great Britain, our new official statistics on gambling behaviours in Great Britain.
We are pleased that you recognised the hard work the team has put into developing and delivering the Gambling Survey for Great Britain, securing access for both the Commission and users of our statistics to a regular and reliable source of data about gambling which allows us to track trends and patterns in behaviours over time. This will be especially important as we implement and evaluate policy changes as a result of the Gambling Act Review.
We also welcome the helpful recommendations that your review made and have already actioned a number of areas based on earlier feedback from your team. We are now pleased to be able to set out a more detailed response to the nine recommendations in your review in terms of work completed and proposed actions, along with a timeline for doing this. The 2nd annual report of the GSGB will be published in October 2025, and many of the recommendations in your report will be implemented by then.
As part of our response to you we have also taken the opportunity to review how the GSGB statistics are being used by our stakeholders nearly 12 months after the publication of the first annual report.
We look forward to continuing to you closely with your team as we implement the recommendations, which will not only help to refine the GSGB statistics but also strengthen our adherence to the Code of Practice for Statistics.
Yours sincerely,
Tim Miller
Executive Director of Policy, Research & Statistics
