Monitoring Brief 3/12
This Brief reviews whether the statistical service has sufficient access to, and influence over, the administrative data sources from which official statistics are increasingly drawn. It also looks at some of the statistical implications of the Government’s Open Data policy. It concludes that in order to ensure quality and maximise value, some further steps need to be taken – both to improve access for statistical purposes and to build confidence that appropriate security arrangements exist to protect confidential information about individuals and businesses.
