Dear Abigail

Review of pre-release access lists

Thank you for sharing the findings of the Ministry of Justice’s (MoJ) review of pre-release access lists.

It is good that you have successfully reduced the length of your pre-release access lists, and we welcome the more robust approach to pre-release access that you are now implementing. The three opportunities you outline represent sensible steps to achieving more orderly release of statistics, and clearly demonstrate MoJ’s commitment to equality of access and trustworthiness.

We recognise that there are particular challenges to reducing the pre-release access list for some publications due to the breadth of stakeholders and policy areas covered. It is sensible in this context that you are continuing to look for ways to reduce the size of the lists, and that you are treating this as an ongoing exercise.

We would be happy to support you in delivering refresher training on the Code of Practice for Statistics next year.

I am copying this letter to Amy Caldwell-Nichols, Interim Director of Analysis.

Yours sincerely,

Ed Humpherson
Director General for Regulation
