Dear Chris,

Statistics on Public Health

Thank you for your letter regarding the proposed cessation of accredited official statistics on public health published by NHS England.

We understand that NHS England has consulted users on the migration of remaining statistics to partner organisations and that the Statistics on Public Health page will become a temporary signposting resource until the end of 2026. It is reassuring to hear that the consultation received unanimous support from respondents and that users will continue to have access to the relevant data through alternative sources.

We recognise that decisions to discontinue publications are not taken lightly and often reflect a considered approach to streamlining outputs and improving coherence across the statistical system. In this case, the move appears to support better integration of public health data and aligns with user needs.

Given the planned changes and the continued availability of the data, I approve your request to discontinue the Statistics on Public Health as an accredited official statistic. We welcome your commitment to ensuring users are supported through clear signposting and collaboration with partner organisations.

Yours sincerely

Ed Humpherson
Director General for OSR
