Dear Helen

Assessment of Statistics on Children’s and Young People’s Social Care in England

Thank you for the correspondence outlining the actions that have been taken to address the requirements for Assessment Report number 285 on Statistics on Children’s and Young People’s Social Care for England.

We have reviewed the latest set of actions that you have taken, regarding the Children’s Social Care in England statistics. On behalf of the Board of the Statistics Authority, I am pleased to confirm the designation of Children’s Social Care in England statistics as National Statistics. I appreciate the improvements made by the statistics team to enhance the commentary and insight to the report’s narrative to improve the public value of these statistics for users.

This is the third and final set of statistics to be designated from Assessment Report number 285 and we appreciate Ofsted’s continued work to pursue compliance with the Code across its portfolio of statistics.

It is a requirement of the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 that compliance with the Code of Practice must be maintained.

National Statistics status means that official statistics meet the highest standards of trustworthiness, quality and value and is something to be celebrated. We invite you to include a statement alongside the statistics which reflects this status.

Please feel free to discuss any aspect of this with us at any time. I am copying this letter to John Pullinger, the National Statistician; Rachel Skentelbery; and Fola Ariyibi.

Yours sincerely

Ed Humpherson
Director General for Regulation
