Dear Oonagh

Assessment of Skills for Care’s statistics about the workforce employed by adult social services departments in England

Thank you for inviting us to assess Skills for Care’s statistics about the workforce employed by adult social services departments in England against the Code of Practice for Statistics. We have today published our assessment report covering these statistics. I am grateful for the positive contribution and engagement from your team throughout the assessment process.

We have identified three requirements to improve the statistics. Addressing these requirements will put users at the heart of the statistical production process by being clearer about how user views are acted on, increasing the transparency of governance processes and stakeholder relationships, and ensuring consistent use of terminology throughout the statistical report. We judge that the statistics can be designated as accredited official statistics (called National Statistics in the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007) once we have confirmed that the requirements set out in the report have been met. As discussed, we expect you to report back to us by February 2025 on how you have met these requirements.

I am copying this letter to Will Fenton, Analytics Manager and Lead Official for Statistics at Skills for Care.

Yours sincerely

Ed Humpherson
Director General for OSR
