Thank you for your request for an alternative release time the weekly Viral respiratory diseases in Scotland surveillance report published by Public Health Scotland (PHS).
Having considered your reasons, I am content to approve your proposal to publish at 12:30pm on Wednesday 24th December and 31st December. As you explain, according to the usual publication schedule, these reports would be due to be published at 9:30am on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. By moving the release time to the afternoon of the previous day in each case you can continue to publish these high-profile statistics in a timely way.
I note your confirmation that while this is a shortening of the usual production process PHS is satisfied that there will still be sufficient time to quality assure the statistics and that there will be sufficient cover to support any queries that may arise following publication.
Please ensure that the time of release is made public, that the reasons for the alternative release time are clearly outlined and that any impact on the quality of the statistics due to the shortening of the production process is explained to users.
