Dear Mike,
Assessment of the Profitability of UK Companies and Gross Operating Surplus of private non-financial corporations statistics
As part of our Spotlight on Quality: Assuring Confidence in Economic Statistics programme, we continue to develop the quality focused assessment framework. This follows the recent pilot assessment of your Producer Price Indices.
We have selected the Profitability of UK Companies and Gross Operating Surplus of non-financial corporations for our next pilots, for two reasons:
- the sources and compilation process used to derive these statistics will enable us to pilot the new quality framework on a wide variety of economic data sources, which include the use of adjustments applied to surveys and administrative data sources.
- recognising the direct dependency between the Profitability of UK Companies statistics with the Gross Operating Surplus of non-financial corporations statistics, this assessment will also enable us to pilot assessing complementary statistics simultaneously, aiming to make more efficient use of ONS and OSR resources.
Our Economy, Business and Trade domain team has started to engage with your team, and we thank you and them for the positive engagement so far.
I am copying this letter to Rebecca Richmond, Deputy Director Financial Sector Accounts and Corporations and Frank Donnarumma, Head of Private Non-Financial Corporations Statistics.
Yours sincerely
Mark Pont
Assessment Programme Lead
