Ed Humpherson, Director General for Regulation, Office for Statistics Regulation replies to Neil McIvor, Head of Profession for Statistics, Department for Education (DfE).
Dear Neil,
Key Stage 4 performance measures for institutions with a focus on professional education and an atypical age of admission
Thank you for your letter letter setting out the changes you plan to make in relation to performance measures for institutions with a focus on professional education and an atypical age of admission, as reported in DfE’s school and college performance tables.
I welcome the steps you have taken to respond to users’ concerns over the limitations of the Progress 8 measure for these institutions types. Engaging with users of your statistics and addressing their views is important in ensuring the relevance of your outputs. Your proposals to strengthen caveat statements and review the descriptive bandings will support users to appropriately interpret the statistics.
Thank you for keeping the Office for Statistics Regulation informed of these actions. We will continue to liaise with your team as the future developments you outline progress.
Yours sincerely,
Ed
