Dear Ed,

Medr are an arm’s length body of the Welsh Government. On 1 August 2024 we took over the full range of duties from the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW), and a range of functions from the Welsh Government relating to tertiary education.

We are responsible for funding and regulating the tertiary education sector in Wales including further education (FE), higher education (HE), including research and innovation, apprenticeships, adult community learning, and local authority maintained school sixth forms.

Four of our statistical outputs were previously published as accredited official statistics by Welsh Government.

These releases are:

Sta/Medr/06/2025: Further education, work-based learning and community learning, August 2023 to July 2024 – Medr

Sta/Medr/07/2025: Learner outcome measures for apprenticeships, August 2023 to July 2024 – Medr

Sta/Medr/09/2025: Students in Higher Education, 2023/24 – Medr

Sta/Medr/08/2025: Welsh Language in Higher Education 2022/23 – Medr

Our statistical processes/arrangements are still bedding in and therefore we’d like to request that their accredited official statistics status be removed.

In accordance with Section 12(1) of the Statistics and Registration Act 2007, we would welcome a full assessment of these four statistics above, and if possible an assessment of an additional two:

Sta/Medr/11/2025: Consistent performance measures for post-16 learning: Achievement, August 2023 to July 2024

Sta/Medr/13/2025: Apprenticeships learning programmes started: November 2024 to January 2025 (provisional)

We welcome the opportunity to work with your team and provide any evidence you require to complete the assessment.

Yours sincerely,

Sioned Cardew-Richardson
