Dear Ed,

Universal Credit Work Capability Assessment Statistics

In our correspondence around a lack of reporting on Universal Credit Work Capability Assessment statistics, I advised that we needed to get confirmation on the resources available for our Statistical Work Programme before we could make an assessment on our development priorities.

I am pleased to now update you that our work on the development of statistics has resumed and we have announced our intention to publish the first set of Universal Credit Work Capability Assessment statistics, April 2019 to March 2023 on 8th June 2023. This new quarterly experimental statistical series will be developed in line with the Code of Practice for Statistics and users will be kept informed through the DWP Statistical Work Programme.

Alongside this announcement we have published details on what we are planning to include in the release to give users an opportunity to engage on the development of this release in line with our User Engagement Strategy.

We have updated the DWP Statistical Work Programme to reflect this announcement and we are encouraging users to share views on all of our statistical work programme, as we aim to make best use of the resources available, to provide informative statistics that are trustworthy, high quality and represent good value.

I have copied this letter to Peter Schofield, DWP Permanent Secretary.

Yours sincerely,

Steve Ellerd-Elliott, DWP Chief Statistician and Head of Profession for Statistics
