Compliance review of statistics under development from the Winter Coronavirus Infection Study, England and Scotland

Background

In October 2023, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Office for National Statistics (ONS) announced the publication of official statistics from fresh research – the Winter Coronavirus Infection Study (WCIS). Results from the WCIS published by ONS can be found in this link: WCIS dataset. Building on this data, modelled estimates of epidemiological characteristics are published by the UKHSA in this link: WCIS estimates.

Our review

We are currently reviewing whether and to what extent the statistics from the WCIS meet the standards of the Code of Practice for Statistics.

The Code of Practice is a regulatory framework based on the trustworthiness, quality and value of statistics. It places a strong emphasis on meeting the needs of users. Capturing the views of users, and potential users, forms an important part of our judgment about the statistics.
