Dear Sandra
Transparency of data related to the Levelling Up Fund (LUF)
Thank you to you and your team for taking the time to talk to OSR. It is clear that considerable work has gone into the analysis underpinning the Levelling up Fund: prospectus. It was positive to see the additional documents including methodology published shortly after the document was published, these fill an important gap. However, from this methodology and the data publicly available it is still not possible to recreate the full dataset used to allocate local authorities to priorities areas.
It is our expectation that data to support key decisions should be published in a clear and accessible form with appropriate explanations of context and sources. OSR has recently published a statement reiterating these expectations. In this case, publication of the data which support the allocation of priorities areas would enhance public confidence in the decisions that have been made and the organisations making them.
I know that you take these principles seriously and it would be good if these important data could be published as soon as possible.
Yours sincerely
Ed Humpherson
Director General for Regulation
