Dear Ed,

Re: Transparency of data related to the levelling up Fund (LUF)

With regard to your letter dated 6th August 2021 I am writing to let you know that we have now published the ‘Levelling Up Fund prioritisation of places model’, which shows all the steps that were taken when using data to assign Local Authorities in England, Scotland and Wales to categories 1, 2 and 3 in the context of the Levelling Up Fund. This is now available in the spreadsheet that has been appended to the foot of the following gov.uk webpage: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/levelling-up-fund-additional-documents.

You will find that all of the data underpinning the categorisation of places is displayed in the sheets that appear after the Tab which is headed ‘Data and input construction’ and highlighted in green. This supplements the information, including the methodology, which we published at the time of the funding announcement.

You emphasised in your letter the importance of publishing data that support key decisions in order to enhance public confidence.  As you know, Stephen Aldridge, DLUHC’s Chief Analyst, and I are fully supportive of this objective and we will continue to work with colleagues to promote it.

Yours sincerely,

Sandra Tudor
