Introduction

The Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR) is the independent regulatory arm of the UK Statistics Authority (known as the Authority). Our vision is that statistics should serve the public good, one way we achieve this is through our casework.

This report draws together our casework from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022 (2021/22). It focuses on the issues and themes in the 241 pieces of casework we have investigated.

The casework annual report is aimed at anyone with an interest in the work of OSR or anyone interested in how official statistics are used. It highlights key case studies from 2021/22 and, where relevant, reflects back on the 2020/21 Casework report.

This report is supported by three annexes. Annex A – Casework Summary April 2021 to March 2022 provides management information related to our casework, including our underpinning assumptions and interpretation of the data, Annex B – Parliamentary discussions of casework provides examples of where our casework has been referenced in parliamentary debate, and Annex C – Statement of voluntary compliance is a statement of our compliance with the Code of Practice for Statistics.
