Our approach
1.1 This review considers the progress ONS has already made, and the further work required before the trade statistics can be considered for re-accreditation. We analysed ONS’s evidence for meeting the 13 requirements set out in the 2015 assessment as well as the trade statistics’ current compliance with the Code of Practice. For this, we compiled evidence from desk research and engagement with key stakeholders.
Desk research
1.2 We looked at the monthly outputs published by ONS as well as supplementary documents, such as the Quality Methodology and Information report, the methodology document, published development plans and additional analysis articles.
User engagement
1.3 We spoke to key users of the monthly UK trade statistics. OSR conducted 11 interviews from December 2024 to January 2025. Those interviewed included users from government departments and other stakeholders with an interest in UK trade statistics.
