Transport, Environment and Climate Change

Last updated on Tuesday 28th May 2024 to update planned work

Our Transport, Environment and Climate Change (TECC) domain covers statistics on transport and transport infrastructure; food and farming; the natural environment; energy sources, production, consumption and prices; fuel poverty; and climate change.

Data and statistics on these topics continue to be so important in developing and evaluating policy decisions and informing individuals, academics, and decision makers on key areas affecting the UK today, particular in light of concerns around the cost of living and climate change.

This year we are working on regulatory reviews of some key biodiversity indicators including our assessment of Defra’s Butterfly statistics and our compliance check of Defra’s Wild bird statistics. We will also undertake an assessment of the Travel Survey for Northern Ireland later in the year.

In previous years, we completed systemic review work – on the ‘Accessibility and Coherence of UK Climate Change Statistics’ and ‘Review of Transport Accessibility Statistics’ – and compliance activities – on the People and Nature survey for England, and fuel poverty and food security statistics. We continue to review progress on these topics and will seek to identify and secure further improvements to these data.

We will be continuing our work to improve the trustworthiness, quality and value of TECC statistics, working with the producers of statistics and being informed by the users of statistics. We are always open to making new connections and hearing a range of views about data and statistics on these topics.
